After Singapore, I flew north to Chiang Mai for the cool season in January 2026, saving Bangkok for last. And I did it with one of my favorite ways to travel: with a private driver.

The White Temple is 3.5 to 4 hours each way from Chiang Mai. Doing it privately makes it enjoyable, not exhausting.
We stopped at Mae Kachan Hot Springs to break up the drive. The water is so hot locals boil eggs in baskets on long bamboo poles like in this photo. It’s steamy, fun, and a welcome leg-stretch that only happens when you control the schedule.
Then Wat Rong Khun itself, all white with mirrored glass. Surreal and beautiful.
